Dr. Ahmed Al-Khodary

Dr. Ahmed Abdelmajed Al-Khodary is a pharmacist and health economist whose work runs from the hospital pharmacy floor to national health policy. He holds a PhD in Health Economics and Community Health from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Malaysia (2022), an MSc in Health Management from the School of Public Health at Al-Quds University (2017), and a BSc in Pharmacy from Al-Azhar University - Gaza (2000).

He served for eight years as Advisor in the Deputy Minister's Office at the Palestinian Ministry of Health, after eleven years in the Hospital Pharmacy Department of the Ministry's General Directorate of Hospitals. In that time he helped write the national manuals the ministry's hospitals still work to - among them the protocols for handling narcotic drugs, the pharmaceutical care guide, the hospital-based chemotherapy protocols, the sterilisation and decalcification programme that raised the quality of haemodialysis units, and the national inventory procedures guide. He began his career in the chemotherapy, paediatric and psychiatric pharmacies of Gaza's hospitals.

His research centres on the economic burden of disease and on health financing. In Malaysia he worked on the LRGS TUA community study of ageing and on health economics research with the Malaysian Health Economics Association, and his published work covers the cost of cognitive frailty among the elderly, the economic burden of influenza in older populations, health insurance coverage among diabetes patients, and antimicrobial resistance in Gaza's government hospitals - in journals including PLOS ONE, the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and the Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine. He teaches health economics, biostatistics, research methodology and healthcare quality at Al-Quds University and the Palestine College of Nursing, and currently supervises pharmacy services at Jabaliya Hospital with International Medical Corps.
